Historic Technology at Stokesay Court

Stokesay Court is an interesting example of a house that was built using the most up to date and advanced technology available at the time, including integral electric light and under-floor heating. As such, it was considered to be quite cutting edge.

The house laundry survives, housed in a separate building, and the old kitchens and service rooms are largely unaltered. Wherever possible features and traces of the original technology have been preserved and can be viewed, either as part of the normal tour or by special arrangement. More information about Stokesay's technology can be found in "Technology in the Country House" by Marilyn Palmer and Ian West published by Historic England and the National Trust in 2016.
