Pre-booked guided tours of Stokesay Court offer a unique opportunity to see a virtually untouched late Victorian interior and to hear the stories of the house over the past century.
Stokesay Court is a magnificent Grade II* late-Victorian mansion imposingly set within extensive landscaped grounds, with far ranging views towards Ludlow. Still a lived-in, private home, Stokesay is open exclusively for pre-booked guided house tours on selected dates or by appointment (for groups) to view the magnificent architecture, intricately crafted detailing and behind-the-scenes insight to the filming of "Atonement". Additional displays tell the fascinating story of Stokesay's role as an auxiliary military WW1 Hospital.
Tours normally take around one and a quarter hours and are followed by afternoon tea with home baking served in the Dining Room.
Visitors are at leisure to explore the grounds and gardens after tea.
Following a short film show, tour the principle rooms on the ground floor including the drawing room, and the billiards room used as the library in “Atonement” with its famous bookcase. We show you wallpapers and scenery used in the film which remain in situ in the first floor bedrooms. The model of Triton from the fountain is on display too. You will explore the service wing and the old kitchens.
Exhibits from the important WW1 Hospital archive, together with information about the Allcroft family and the story of the house itself are displayed in our archive room.
Tours for individuals or small groups are available on the publicised dates. They must be pre-booked and cost £16.50 per person inclusive. Please note that bookings must be paid for in advance and it will not be possible to turn up on the day.
Additionally visitors may have the opportunity to glimpse behind the scenes into the privately run Walled Garden in the grounds, at a small extra cost and subject to availability. Business owners, Barney & Victoria Martin, grow top quality garden flowers for weddings, parties and for sale. The Flower Garden is open by appointment only.
All tours must be booked in advance.
